Nothing is quite as hard to obtain than self-worth. Sometimes it takes a lifetime’s worth of effort and work to even get a glimpse of what it feels like to love yourself fully. The reason why it is such an important thing to work on is because when you do have a healthy sense of self-worth, you positively affect your relationships, your physical health, and your overall well-being.
If you’re at a point in your life that you think you are struggling with your self-worth, there are steps you can take and activities you can do to give yourself the best chance.

One of those is to try and do things you enjoy and that you’re good at. This helps with confidence and self-efficacy. Doing things that you actually enjoy provides a sense of positive reinforcement and it helps even more if you do these things well or are things that you are proficient at.
Another is to question negative thoughts. Your thoughts about yourself are not always factual. They are influenced by society, opinions, etc. It’s your choice to challenge these negative thoughts. Every time you think of something detrimental about yourself, think of a more reality-based alternative to replace these thoughts. Give yourself room for error and room for improvement.
One of the most effective things you can do, although some might view is the hardest, is to seek for help. It could be in a form of phoning a friend, talking to your pastor or someone equivalent, or even a psychologist/therapist. These are people who are ready to help, even if it’s just to listen.
In a world this chaotic, it’s good to surround yourself with good people who inspire you to be good to both you and others. Take the time to work on yourself and your well-being and it will help you realize that your worth as a person is and always will be under your control and yours only.
